orange ornaments

Posted on December 21, 2024 by admin

Ingredients

– 4-6 orange peels (depending on size)
– 2 cups granulated sugar
– 2 cups water
– 1/4 cup light corn syrup
– Optional: decorative items like ribbons, twine, or glitter

Instructions

1. Prepare the orange peels: Cut the orange peels into desired shapes or strips. Remove any white pith from the peels.
2. Blanch the peels: Place the peels in a saucepan and cover them with water. Bring to a boil, then drain and rinse the peels.
3. Create the sugar syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
4. Candy the peels: Add the blanched orange peels to the sugar syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the peels are translucent and the syrup has thickened.
5. Dry the ornaments: Remove the peels from the syrup and place them on a wire rack or parchment-lined baking sheet. Let them dry completely, which may take several hours or overnight.
6. Decorate (optional): Once the ornaments are dry, you can decorate them with ribbons, twine, or glitter.

Tips

– Use organic oranges for the best flavor and texture.
– To make the ornaments more durable, you can add a few drops of glycerin to the sugar syrup.
– Store the ornaments in an airtight container to keep them fresh.

These Orange Ornaments make beautiful and fragrant decorations for your home or gifts for friends and family. Enjoy!
