Ingredients
For the Cake
– 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
– 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
– 2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
– 2 large eggs
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Fluff (Mousse)
– 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
– 1/2 cup (115g) powdered sugar
– 1/2 cup (120g) unsalted butter, softened
– 2 cups (400g) confectioners’ sugar
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– Green food coloring (for the tree color)
For the Decorations
– Red and green M&M’s or sprinkles (for ornaments)
– White chocolate chips or shredded coconut (for snow)
– Edible glitter or sparkles (optional)
Instructions
1. Bake the cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch (23x33cm) baking dish. Prepare the cake batter and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
2. Make the fluff (mousse): Beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, beat powdered sugar, butter, and confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Fold the whipped cream into the sugar mixture until combined. Add vanilla extract and green food coloring to tint the fluff green.
3. Assemble the cake: Once the cake is completely cool, crumble it into a large bowl. Fold the fluff mixture into the crumbled cake until well combined.
4. Shape the tree: Transfer the cake mixture to a serving dish or a Christmas tree-shaped mold. Shape the mixture into a triangular tree shape.
5. Decorate the tree: Use red and green M&M’s or sprinkles to create ornaments. Drizzle with white chocolate or sprinkle shredded coconut to resemble snow. Add edible glitter or sparkles for extra sparkle.
Tips
– To ensure the fluff holds its shape, refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.
– Experiment with different flavors, like peppermint or gingerbread, to create a unique twist.
– Consider using a cake turntable to display your Christmas Tree Cake Fluff
