🎪 Crispy Funnel Cake Sticks

Ingredients

For the Funnel Cake Sticks:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Chocolate sauce, caramel, or fruit preserves for dipping

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth and free of lumps. The batter should be slightly thick but pourable.

Step 2: Heat the Oil

  1. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. To test, drop a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

Step 3: Fry the Funnel Cake Sticks

  1. Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle, piping bag, or plastic bag with the tip cut off.
  2. Pipe 4–6-inch sticks directly into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  3. Fry for 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to remove the sticks and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 4: Add the Finishing Touches

  1. While still warm, dust the funnel cake sticks generously with powdered sugar.
  2. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit preserves.

Tips for Success

  • Consistency: Ensure the batter is smooth and flows easily. Add a splash of milk if it’s too thick.
  • Temperature: Maintain the oil temperature between 350°F and 375°F for perfect crispiness.
  • Storage: If not serving immediately, keep the sticks warm in a low oven (200°F/95°C) until ready to eat.
