Butter Toffee Pretzels

Ingredients

  • 5 cups mini pretzels (or pretzel twists)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Make the Toffee Coating

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, sugar, and corn syrup.
  2. Stir constantly until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture boil for 3–4 minutes without stirring.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda. The mixture will bubble up—this is normal!

Step 3: Coat the Pretzels

  1. Place the pretzels in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Pour the toffee mixture over the pretzels, stirring gently to coat them evenly.

Step 4: Bake the Pretzels

  1. Spread the coated pretzels evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even coating.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  1. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the pretzels cool completely. The toffee will harden as they cool.
  2. Once cooled, break apart any large clusters and transfer to an airtight container for storage.
