Classic American Cheeseburgers with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

Posted on December 29, 2024 by admin

Ingredients:

– 4 hamburger buns
– 8 ounces (225g) ground beef
– 1 medium onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 4 slices American cheese
– Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any other desired toppings

Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

– 3-4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
– 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
– 1/2 cup (120ml) milk or heavy cream
– Salt and pepper, to taste

Gravy

Ingredients:

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons butter or oil
– 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
– 1/2 cup (120ml) milk or heavy cream
– Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the cheeseburgers: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands until just combined. Form into 4 patties. Grill the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
2. Assemble the cheeseburgers: Once the patties are cooked, assemble the cheeseburgers by spreading a slice of American cheese on the bottom bun, followed by a cooked patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any other desired toppings.
3. Prepare the mashed potatoes: Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and add enough cold water to cover them. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper, and mash the potatoes with a potato masher or a fork until they’re smooth and creamy.
4. Prepare the gravy: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk together to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes. Gradually pour in the beef broth and milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
