Ingredients
– 1 1/2 cups (190g) warm milk
– 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 3 tablespoons (40g) unsalted butter, melted
– 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
– 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup (60g) unsweetened cocoa powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup (120g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
– 1 cup (150g) sliced strawberries
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
1. Activate yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes, until frothy.
2. Mix dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Add melted butter, yeast mixture, and mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead dough: Knead the dough for 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
4. Proof dough: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Prepare filling: Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval.
6. Assemble bread: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Spread melted chocolate, leaving a 1-inch border. Arrange sliced strawberries on top.
7. Roll and bake: Roll the dough into a tight log, cut in half lengthwise, and twist. Place on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. Dust with sugar: Let cool for 10 minutes before dusting with confectioners’ sugar.
