Cake Mix Toffee Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup toffee bits (like Heath bits)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts, optional)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, milk, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Press into the Pan:
    • Press about 2/3 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the base.
  4. Layer the Toppings:
    • Sprinkle the toffee bits, chocolate chips, and nuts (if using) evenly over the dough layer.
    • Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the toppings.
  5. Add the Remaining Dough:
    • Drop small pieces of the remaining dough over the top. It doesn’t need to cover everything; gaps are fine.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set.
  7. Cool and Slice:
    • Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
