basic butterfly floral cake

Ingredients:

For the cake:
– 2 1/4 cups (285g) all-purpose flour
– 1 1/2 cups (180g) granulated sugar
– 3 large eggs, at room temperature
– 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup (235ml) whole milk, at room temperature
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the buttercream:
– 1 cup (200g) unsalted butter, softened
– 2 1/4 cups (280g) powdered sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 2-4 tablespoons whole milk
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the floral design:
– Fresh flowers or edible flowers (such as violas, pansies, or roses)
– Green frosting or piping gel for stems
– Piping bag and piping tips

Instructions:

To make the cake:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20cm) round cake pans.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the buttercream:
1. Beat the softened butter in a large bowl until creamy.
2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth and creamy.
3. Add the salt, milk, and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.

To assemble and decorate the cake:
1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
2. Spread a layer of buttercream on top of the cake.
3. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining buttercream.
4. Use fresh flowers or edible flowers to create a floral design on top of the cake.
5. Use green frosting or piping gel to create stems for the flowers.
6. Use a piping bag and piping tips to add additional details, such as leaves or borders.
