Ingredients
– 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tsp baking soda
– 1 tsp salt
– 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
– 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
– 3/4 cup brown sugar
– 2 large eggs
– 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
– 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients (flour mixture) until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
7. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the centers are set.
9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips and Variations
– Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor.
– Add-ins like nuts (walnuts, pecans), dried cranberries, or espresso powder can enhance the flavor and texture.
– Chill the dough for 30 minutes to an hour to help the cookies retain their shape.
– For a crisper cookie, bake for 12-14 minutes. For a chewier cookie, bake for 8-10 minutes.
