Ingredients
Meat Sauce
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1 onion, chopped
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 cups marinara sauce
– 1 cup beef broth
– 1 tsp dried basil
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– Salt and pepper, to taste
Ricotta Mixture
– 16 oz ricotta cheese
– 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 egg, beaten
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp black pepper
– 1/2 tsp dried basil
– 1/2 tsp dried oregano
Cheese
– 8 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced
– 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Assembly
– 8-10 lasagna noodles
– Fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Cook Lasagna Noodles
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare Meat Sauce
1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
2. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent.
3. Add garlic, marinara sauce, beef broth, dried basil, and dried oregano. Stir to combine.
4. Bring sauce to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 3: Prepare Ricotta Mixture
1. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, black pepper, dried basil, and dried oregano. Mix well to combine.
Step 4: Assemble Lasagna
1. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
2. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Top with half of the sliced mozzarella cheese.
3. Repeat the layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese.
4. Top the final layer of mozzarella cheese with grated Parmesan cheese.
Step 5: Bake and Serve
1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
2. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
3. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with chopped fresh basil leaves, if desired.
