Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter version)
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juice)
- 2 cups beef broth (or water)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp dried basil (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1½ cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Cook the Beef
- Heat a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
2. Sauté Onions and Garlic
- Add the diced onion to the beef and sauté for 3–4 minutes, or until softened.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Prepare the Sauce
- Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well and bring to a gentle simmer.
4. Cook the Pasta
- Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook until the macaroni is tender and has absorbed the flavors of the sauce.
5. Add Cheese (Optional)
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the goulash and cover until the cheese melts, about 2–3 minutes.
6. Serve
- Garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh touch. Serve hot with a side of garlic bread or a crisp green salad.
