Ingredients
– 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
– 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
– 1/4 cup chopped green onions (such as scallions or chives)
– 1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– Optional: chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley or thyme)
Instructions
1. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
2. Prepare the cheese dough: In a large bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese and beaten egg. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Assemble the cheese balls: Divide the cheese dough into small balls, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. Flatten each ball slightly into a disk shape. Place a small spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each disk. Fold the dough over the filling to form a ball shape, sealing the edges tightly.
4. Chill and serve: Place the stuffed cheese balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set the cheese. Serve chilled, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
