Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding
Ingredients:
– 4 cups stale bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 1/2 cup whole milk
– 2 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine bread, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, whole milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
4. Pour the wet ingredients over the bread mixture and stir until the bread is evenly coated.
5. Pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
6. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
Vanilla Sauce
Ingredients:
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
– 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. In a small saucepan, combine heavy cream, granulated sugar, and salt.
2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
3. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
4. Let it cool to room temperature.
Assembly
1. Serve the warm bread pudding with the vanilla sauce spooned over the top.
2. You can also top it with whipped cream, chopped nuts, or a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.
