Ingredients
– 1 1/2 cups (190g) warm milk (105°F – 115°F)
– 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 3 tablespoons (45g) granulated sugar
– 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup (55g) unsalted butter, melted
– 1/2 cup (120g) sweetened condensed milk
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Activate yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then let sit for 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.
2. Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Add the melted butter, sweetened condensed milk, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
4. Knead the dough: Using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, knead the dough for 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, knead by hand for 15-20 minutes.
5. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
6. Shape the dough: Punch down the dough and shape into a round or oblong loaf. Place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Second rise: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffed.
8. Egg wash: Brush the beaten egg over the dough for a golden glaze.
9. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 25-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
10. Cool: Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
