Ingredients:

– 2-3 large potatoes
– 1/2 cup vegetable oil
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
– 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions:

1. Select and peel potatoes: Choose potatoes that are high in starch, like Russet or Idaho. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife.
2. Cut potatoes: Cut the peeled potatoes into long, thin strips. You can either cut them by hand or use a French fry cutter.
3. Soak potato strips: Fill a large bowl with cold water and add a handful of ice cubes. Soak the potato strips in the cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
4. Dry potato strips: After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
5. Heat oil: Fill a deep frying pan or a deep fryer with vegetable oil. Heat the oil to around 350°F (175°C).
6. Double-fry potatoes: Double-frying is a technique that helps achieve crispy fries. Fry the potatoes in batches until they are slightly tender, around 3-4 minutes. Remove the fries from the oil with a slotted spoon and let them cool on a paper towel-lined plate for a few minutes. Then, increase the oil temperature to around 375°F (190°C) and fry the potatoes again until they are golden brown and crispy, around 2-3 minutes.
7. Season fries: Remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle the fries with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika (if using).
8. Serve: Serve the French fries hot and enjoy!

Tips:

– Use the right potatoes: Choose potatoes that are high in starch, like Russet or Idaho, for crispy fries.
– Soak potatoes: Soaking the potatoes in cold water helps remove excess starch, resulting in crispy fries.
– Double-fry potatoes: Double-frying helps achieve crispy fries by cooking the potatoes twice.
– Monitor oil temperature: Keep an eye on the oil temperature to ensure it stays within the ideal range for frying.
