Mini Butter Cookies

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (90g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ¼ tsp salt

Optional Toppings:

  • Colored sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Jam for thumbprint cookies

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.

Step 3: Shape the Cookies

  1. Roll the dough into small 1-inch balls or use a piping bag with a star tip for decorative shapes.
  2. Place the cookies about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. If desired, press a small indentation in the center for jam or decorate with sprinkles.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 5: Add Final Touches

  1. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with melted chocolate, or fill the indentations with jam for variety.

Tips for Success

  • Soft Butter: Ensure the butter is softened but not melted for the best texture.
  • Piping Bag: If using a piping bag, chill the dough slightly for easier handling.
  • Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
