Ingredients
– 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 1/4 tsp sugar
– 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
– 1 cup water
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
2. Add water to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let the dough rest for 24 hours at room temperature.
4. After 24 hours, the dough should have doubled in size and have a few large bubbles.
5. Heat a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
6. Dust the dough with a little flour and gently shape it into a round or oblong shape.
7. Place the dough into the preheated skillet or Dutch oven.
8. Cover the skillet or Dutch oven with a lid and cook for 30 minutes.
9. Remove the lid and continue cooking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
10. Remove the bread from the skillet or Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Tips
– Use a cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven with a lid to create a steamy environment that helps the bread cook evenly.
– Don’t overmix the dough, as this can lead to a dense bread.
– Let the bread cool completely before slicing to ensure it retains its texture.
